Director’s Message

Year Seven!!

Reality is something that the children of Camp HOPE live with daily as they strive to heal from the traumatic effects of violence in their lives.  What has happened to them was not their fault, but the results are their’s to overcome.  Over 120 campers, age 7 to 16, are registered and ready to attend camp this summer at Lake Sutherland, June 30th through July 31st.

It is up to us, the supporters of Camp HOPE, to make sure that these children not only attend camp this summer but that they are able to participate in the ready to launch year round Camp HOPE programs. These programs reinforce the relationships developed at camp and track the progress of each of the campers.  Thus continuing the experiential and transformative programs that build on the foundation established during the initial one-week residential camp.

Camp HOPE has been hit especially hard by the recession, coupled by on-going delays in approved funding disbursement and the permitting process for the building of the camp’s permanent structures. The loss of Camp HOPE programs would have long-term and irrevocable repercussions in San Diego County and the community response to family violence and child abuse.

Camp HOPE is currently the only prevention program of its kind; and local therapists share that just one-week at camp yields the same behavioral results in children who are participating in 6 months of traditional therapy.

We know that children continue to be the silent victims of family violence.  Because we are aware; it is our responsibility to change the reality that Camp HOPE children are facing.  Please join me today in investing in Camp HOPE programs with the knowledge that our actions will reduce the number of future victims and perpetrators of violence in the San Diego community.

Help Camp HOPE children create HOPE and capture dreams today and tomorrow. Knowing that our future growth is ripe with possibility, giving us the ability to serve 1000’s of children each year as we build our permanent facilities.

Thank you for your gift of HOPE that will not just make a difference in the life of a child today, but to help them make healthy and violent-free choices tomorrow.
